Long Term Pain Not Short Term Gain

Bingo was never meant to be a race. It is played mainly at a slow moving pace whereby each number is called out on average, once every five to ten seconds. Online bingo should be a source for relaxation where the player may enjoy a drink at his/her terminal while engaging in the different games played during a session. That is why I have always found it to be annoying when a session of online bingo consists of mostly one or two line winner games as opposed to games where the winner must obtain a full card of numbers called or in some cases, a combination of rows, corners, or squares either inside or outside of the card.

The problems associated with one and two line winning games are more than just the speed at which a winner is determined. It is true that a one-line winner game will usually end after a number in each row has been called. However, it is more disheartening when a session consists of mostly one and two line games simply because they are less exciting and less challenging. I have witnessed enough bingo games to know that when a number in all five rows has been called, right before the last number, a quiet murmur begins to make its way across the hall. Players’ expectations are such that they expect a one-line game to end within seven numbers being called. There is nothing wrong with a one line game every so often. However, in an activity where the attention of its players is fundamental to its participation rate, longer lasting games with a twist could spark an even greater amount of interest.

I have never met a bingo player who does not find the thrill of being one number away from winning in a full card game more exciting than the prospects of cashing in on a winning card in a one line game. It is almost as if the player has accomplished a great feat. Quick games are a great way to start off a session. Once the engine gets revved up there is no reason not to put it into fifth gear.
